The aim of the Foundation is to promote research in the technical or natural sciences within SCA´s business areas. At the Annual General Meeting on April 2017, SCA shareholders voted in favor of splitting the Group into two listed companies; one hygiene company and one forest company.

The Foundation will continue to promote research in strategic areas of both companies and the relation of the companies’ net sales will be mirrored in the scientific areas that the Foundation supports which is 80 % hygiene related and 20 % forest related projects.

The Foundation´s main activity is the provision of research grants. In addition, we offer travel grants for doctoral students who wish to participate in scientific conferences and we also awards grants for the best annual master´s thesis.

SCA´s business areas

Personal hygiene products develop, manufactures and sells absorption products such as incontinence products, baby diapers and feminine care products, but also cleaning and skin care products for personal hygiene. The products are sold under brands, such as TENA, Libero and Libresse.

Tissue develops, manufactures and sells consumer tissue and Away-from-Home (AfH) tissue. The consumer tissue product portfolio comprises toilet paper, kitchen rolls, facial tissues, handkerchiefs and napkins. In the consumer tissue segment, products are sold under brands such as Edet, Tork and Tempo. In the AfH tissue segment, SCA develops and markets complete hygiene solutions, including tissue, soap, hand lotion, hand sanitizers, dispensers, cleaning and wiping products, service and maintenance for institutions and companies, under the globally leading brand Tork.

Forest Products manufactures paper for packaging and print, pulp, solid-wood products and renewable energy. SCA is Europe´s largest private forest owner, with 2.6 million hectares of environmentally certified forest land and produces forest products with a strong environmentally profile. SCA´s forest asset is a unique growing resource that represents the core of the forest products company´s operations and enables the supply of wood raw materials and energy at competitive prices to the company´s forest products operations. SCA welcome research applications in prioritized areas like pulp technology, solid wood, forest management and fiber chemistry.

SCA will be splitted into two listed companies

SCA was founded in 1929 as a forest products company operating in Sweden. Over the years, the company expanded into other business activities and geographically. SCA has developed and is today a leading global hygiene and forest product company, with the hygiene business accounting for approximately 86% of the SCA Group´s 2016 net sales and the forest products business for approximately 14%.

In August 2016, SCA announced that the company would initiate work in order to be able to propose to the 2017 Annual General Meeting to decide on a split of the SCA Group into two listed companies; one to operate the hygiene business and one to operate the forest products business. At the Annual General Meeting on April 5 2017, SCA shareholders voted in favor of splitting the Group into two listed companies. One will be a leading global hygiene and health company and include the current SCA business areas Personal Care and Tissue. The new company name will be Essity. The other will be an efficient and well-invested forest products company that will include all forest land owned by the SCA Group and the forest products operations. The forest product company will keep the name SCA. The split will be effective during June 2017.
